Avian influenza commonly known as Bird Flu,is Flu infection in birds. The virus that causes the bird infection can mutate to infect humans.
The first avian influenza virus to infect humans occurred in Hong Kong in 1997. The epidemic was linked to chickens and classified as avian influenza A (H5N1).

CAUSES :

The more the avian flu virus spreads, the greater the chances of a worldwide outbreak in humans as an enormous pandemic threat. The avian flu virus (H5N1) has been shown to survive in the environment for long periods of time. Infection may be spread simply by touching contaminated surfaces. Birds who were infected with this flu can continue to release the virus in their feces and saliva for as long as 10 days.

SYMPTOMS :
• Cough (dry or productive)
• Diarrhea
• Difficulty breathing
• Fever greater than 100.4°F (38°C)
• Headache
• Malaise
• Muscle aches
• Runny nose
• Sore throat

The Symptoms are similar to the common Influenza that's the reason people may ignore Bird Flu at the initial stages...
DANGERS :
H5N1 is the most harmful strain of avian flu, having killed 360 of 610 infected people since 2003. Bird Flu has higher mortality rate compared to the swine-flu

VACCINE :

Chinese scientists have produced the world's first live vaccine against bird flu and Newcastle disease in 2005. Australian researchers have been hard at work developing a vaccine for all of the strains of bird flu that have been identified yet they have not yet been released for the public to use due to a need for further research and testing as to the affectivity of the vaccine.

PREVENTION :

It's said that " Prevention is Better than Cure ". Some Preventive ways are :
• Keeping Poultry Farm Far from the Home.
• Wearing a separate protective cloth while working in Poultry.
• Cooking the meat properly before eating.
• Wash your hands regularly, particularly after going to the toilet and before handling food
